week 9

There was very strong side lighting, late in the day, on these trees on a boulevard in downtown Phoenix. In order to prevent the bright highlights from being blown out, I had to underexpose a considerable amount. The very high contrast nature of this photograph seemed to demand a black and white treatment, and to further enhance the drama, I underexposed even more in post processing. This eliminated all background detail, leaving the bright outlines of the trunks and tendril of leaves, and just a bit of detail in the bark.
