week 38 - 52 week project: An Encounter with Trees
Invariably, children's drawings portray tree trunks as brown sticks. That is how we perceive them when we are young and this perception often persists into adulthood. Looking at large groups of trees (here in Ontario, Canada, where I live) we see the leaves supported by brownish grey trunks. However, if we look closely, we can observe the complex yet subtle colours in bark, especially in the deeply textured wood of mature trees. This specimen has areas of red, peach, yellow and blue, as well as brown and grey.
