week 14

WEEK 14: HOME, ONTARIO
The red and white of the stop sign at the end of my street contrasted against the blue sky, and provided the basis for this very graphic image. Using a telephoto lens to get in close, I cut off the right side of the sign, but kept the post. In Photoshop, I deliberately cropped parts of the letters, leaving only the white, linear designs, and then cropped from the left, leaving a section of the octangonal shape and a strip of blue sky. That this is, or isn't identifiable as a stop sign is irrelevant to me. I was only interested in visually playing with the shapes and lines associated with the sign and sky. I love shooting photographs with a strong graphic component, and don't know why I hadn't thought of shooting a stop sign before.
