theme 1 week 1: NOTHING IN FOCUS

For our first 4 week theme, we've decided to make images where nothing in the frame is in focus. This is very different from the way we normally make photographs. For this image, made while I was at a resort in the Dominican Republic, two workers from the hotel walked past in an exterior hallway. In defocusing the lens, fine details are lost, leaving their bright coloured uniforms and their shapes prominent elements in the picture space. Instead of the photograph being about two individuals in a specific setting, the out of focus technique create an impression of two anonymous figures, and colour and shape become important.
