I just returned from a trip to Portugal. From the rooftop terrace of my hotel in Lisbon, I had a beautiful view of the city. Unlike the tidy, regulated urban views in a city like Toronto, where I live, the views of this old city, built on hills, were filled with a jumble of buildings of various styles and size, situated on narrow streets which twisted and turned. The effect was wonderfully chaotic. To try to simplify things a bit, I converted the scene to black and white, and framed tightly to create the effect of a pattern. I also tried to keep the areas of brighter and darker tones as evenly distributed as possible. Please click
